Hi guys!

just bought myself a new macbook pro!

I have lost the discs to logic pro which i purchased around 3 years ago

what is the best way to get the logic application on my new laptop???

i tried the apple migrate assist but it only lets me migrate everything over from the old lappy.

this will take alot of time and probably use up all my internet quote :(:(

Any ideas for the safest and most reliable way to get logic up and running on my new machine :):)??

thanks in advance guys!

There is no 'safe' way to simply transfer Logic from one computer to another... As has been commented on here, many times in the past.. it is much better (and wiser) to do a full clean install of Logic on a new computer to limit any of the myriad of possible issues caused by doing a 'transfer' in the future...

So my advice would be to agree with Eric.. Call Apple and they will assist you... A client of mine had the same sort of issue (He had lost 2 of the disks) and they gave him a means of downloading the latest Logic directly from the App Store without charge... The simplest and best solution for sure... for a safe and reliable way to get Logic up and running.

I used Migration Assistant to move selected apps and files to my 2011 MBP last year, worked fine for me.

Both systems were on 10.6 8)

Again, it can work.... but there are situations and circumstances which can arise at a later date, that make using MA for moving Logic (and all it's related files) 'unsafe'...

Some people have no issues at all, some have issues that take time to properly fix... and some have a complete nightmare. The biggest headaches occur when one moves from one type of computer or one OS.. to another different type or different OS version. Moving from the same computer to another, identical computer.. or the same OS to another computer with the same OS.. is easier.. but there are still issues that can arise even if initially it all seems to go okay.

Therefore the 'safest' way is to do a fresh install of Logic (and all 3rd party plugins and drivers) whenever possible to minimize the risks.. and headaches later..

While we're talking migration.. I'm thinking of getting a new system drive and wonder how well Migration Assistant (version Coyote... get it... migration ...yeah) anyway.. how well (im)Migration assistant will do with things like original programs (NI, Omnisphere etc) and their authorization will work.. Any thoughts???

Dan,

You will find you will probably need to re-authorize everything.... That tends to be the way it works. In some cases, as I said earlier...it is simply better and safer to reinstall everything from scratch... limiting issues that can be found later. Personally, having had to deal with a bunch of MA issues with Logic and 3rd party plugins, more than once.. with clients.. I prefer the fresh install method every time.
