bobsbarricades
As it stands I LOVE giving colors to things because when I'm on the "creative" bit of a track I can easily make a dozen different guitar or bass sounds and I mix/match them a lot. It gets a bit crazy and is pretty frustrating whenever I want to make a new track for a new sound or even just making new audio files after a comp (flatten and merge for example or save region as...) and it always goes back to default. If there is a way would I be able to open up my template, make the changes and then just overwrite the template? gracias
redlogic
If there is a way would I be able to open up my template, make the changes and then just overwrite the template? Yes. 1. Open up your template. 2. Make the changes. 3. Then, just overwrite the template. After making your changes, go to File > Save as Template... and name it the same as the one you started with. bobsbarricades
that's what I assumed would work; it seemed so....logical Any word on colors?
redlogic
Yes. Choose the ones you like.
David Nahmani
So basically if you have already created the channel strips/tracks you can color them and save your template. If you create NEW tracks AFTER opening your template, they'll have the default color.
bobsbarricades
So it retains what is duplicated? If I duplicate a Blue Audio Instrument track it'll stay blue and if I duplicate an orange one it'll stay orange? This is excellent:D What about when I make new regions after a comp and I flatten it once I have what I'm happy with?
David Nahmani
So it retains what is duplicated? It retains what is created and saved. Meaning if you already create 20 audio tracks and 12 software instrument tracks in your template, you can give those tracks names, icons, colors, save the template, and it will remember those tracks' names, colors and icons. If I duplicate a Blue Audio Instrument track it'll stay blue and if I duplicate an orange one it'll stay orange? Unfortunately not: "New Track with Duplicate Setting" doesn't duplicate color What about when I make new regions after a comp and I flatten it once I have what I'm happy with? Any new region you record/create/edit/comp/flatten will have the color of the track by default.
bobsbarricades
ahhh i think I see what I'm doing wrong. I'm changing region colors not track colors. thanks!
bobsbarricades
Assigning color to both track header/channel strip and region at the same time? Possible?
reddog
Yes. If you give a new track a colour before there are any regions on it. Any region created on the track will have that colour. Otherwise click on the track—all the regions will be highlighted—and apply the colour of your choice (Option-C is the keyboard shortcut to open the colour palette, just in case you don't already know it), then click anywhere on the background of the Arrange window to deselect the regions. The track should still be selected. Select the same colour for the track.
Scott Jackson
Otherwise click on the track—all the regions will be highlighted—and apply the colour of your choice (Option-C is the keyboard shortcut to open the colour palette, just in case you don't already know it), then click anywhere on the background of the Arrange window to deselect the regions. The track should still be selected. Select the same colour for the track. Or, select the track. As reddog said, all the regions will be selected. Click the color of choice. This will color the regions. Then Command Click the same color. This will color the track and channel strip. No need to click the bg of the Arrange. reddog
Thanks Scott, it's always good to learn something new (command-clicking the same colour).

camillo jr
Another way.... if you have a project where you haven't coloured things yet. Go through the mixer one channels strip at a time, choosing a colour for each strip. Then in the Arrange, Select All and then: Region / Color Regions by Channel Strips / Instruments. bobsbarricades
I might like that way even better. Although it brings up another question - making channel strips longer so I can see all of what I call them @_@ Especially busses
