Michaelc22
So, I watched a video on how how do use the backslash key to slice an audio file while its playing in the arrange page. After I sliced it, I dragged the slices into the exs and made the group. In the editor I clicked on a zone to open it up in the sample editor so I could fine tune my start and end points, but when I play them out, the edits dont do anything to the play back. Any advice. Im not sure if this is the best way to go about chopping up samples.
David Nahmani
Im not sure if this is the best way to go about chopping up samples. I find it generally easier to use Audio > Convert Track to New Sampler Track. You can first adjust the position of transients in the sample editor: http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/usermanual/index.html#chapter=17%26section=6%26tasks=true
Michaelc22
So in the other words if I have a 2 bar loop and want to cut it up, highlight the part I want out of the original loop, then go edit and create new region and then drag them in to the exs after that? David Nahmani
There's no editing required, no new region to create: Converting Regions to a New Sampler Track
Michaelc22
So far Im catching on lol but when i go to convert to new sampler track and I play it back it playing a pulse sound? This program is driving me nuts
Michaelc22
i actually just clicked on the exs it made and for some reason now its not saving the zones in there. the only thing I can recall doing earlier is I opened a kontakt player and tried loading a file and accidentally created some folder in the project from an option kontakt brought up about patch loading. But I just opened a new project and started from scratch and its working now. Weird?
fastfourier
Is the "pulse sound" a plain sine wave? That's what EXS sounds like if no instrument is selected (you see "---" in the instrument selector in the plugin)
Michaelc22
Yeah, and for some reason on the project I was oin the convert audio command wasnt putting the audio into the exs. I opened a new one and I got it going now.
David Nahmani
I got it going now. Well that's good to hear. Not sure what happened in your other project there.
Michaelc22
Yeah, me either. Thanks for your help again.
Michaelc22
So I have a 2 bar loop perfectly. I detected the transients in the editor. When I convert to new sampler track its cutting off the first drum hit? Cant figure this one out?
David Nahmani
The number of transients you see in the sample editor should be the number of zones you see in the "Convert Regions to New Sampler Tracks" dialog. Isn't it?
Michaelc22
I got it now. I think it had something do do with with snap zero crossing? But yeah before that the transients were matching the zones.
Michaelc22
Can I delete the audio track I converted to sampler track from? Or does it have to stay in the project? Also whats the best way to adjust each drum hit? Use a multi output exs?
David Nahmani
I think it had something do do with with snap zero crossing? I doubt it, I don't see how that could be related to turning an audio file into a sampler instrument. Can I delete the audio track I converted to sampler track from? Yes, but you need to keep the audio file somewhere on your hard drive. whats the best way to adjust each drum hit? What kind of adjustment? If you open the instrument editor you'll notice you can adjust samples' level, pitch etc.... then if you want to process samples individually (for example you want only one of them to have a reverb) then you use the multi-out version. Michaelc22
Yeah who knows lol. I guess I can just leave it in there on the project. I am sampling vinyl onto audio tracks. And yes I meant reverbs etc.. Thanks again. You are god sent. You ever do the Logic classes in Boston?
David Nahmani
Boston...? No. Los Angeles, and sometimes Dallas, TX.
