Highlighting All MIDI data in a region? [SOLVED]

Alright...Logic 101 here....I've done multiple passes in cycle record to record a drum track....but when I click on the MIDI region, the only parts that show up in the piano roll is the most recent recording. My recording settings are "Merge only in cycle record" and that's what I'm using. Doesn't cycle record mean loop a particular region and record over and over, adding parts at each pass...?

In fact, when I highlight it and "Copy" it and then Paste it, only select parts from the region are copied and pasted. What is going on??

How do I see/highlight ALL the data in the region??? This is SO frustrating.

Hey,

I just tried this on my system (Logic 9.1.7) and it works fine. (recording a drumbeat in 4 passes in cycle record). I think you must be using a slightly older version than me because my "repeat regions" option is under the "edit" section of that pop-up menu. I would posit that this is an old bug that has since been fixed...

Thanks for the help, Fast.

This thing has to be messed up because if the interface/user design of this program is working this way, there is no way anyone would EVER buy this program. You click on something, it should show up. Not the case. I bought this from the App Store on Apple. It isn't a crack version or anything. And it's version 9.1.7.

I've literally spent 12 hours trying to solve this ONE SIMPLE issue. The way it's designed flies in the face of common sense so it better be a glitch or I just pissed away $200.

or.. you are just making a simple mistake in the use/understanding of Logic... which happens..

Eric's suggestion would seem to be the most likely cause/resolution of your issue.... as it would appear you have two (or more) regions on top of each other.. and you are simply copying/duplicating the top region.. An easy check is just to move that top region and see if another region (or three...) appears underneath. If so, move the top region back and do as Eric suggested to merge all regions in that part of the track.

+1 You are simply overlapping regions. I'll have to agree that's not my favorite (or most intuitive) feature of Logic, but yes, in Logic, you can overlap regions (have them stack up on top of each other) at the same location on the same track.

To avoid that next time, you can make sure you choose the desired recording setting: under Settings > Recording, for MIDI recordings, set overlapping recordings to merge with selected region. Then always make sure the region is selected before you record. That will make sure everything you record is contained within a single region.

Guys - thank you SO much for the help. You guys nailed it. It is the region thing I'm struggling with. While I understand the region principle, I don't like the way it's executed.

It's frustrating that once I add something to a loop, the "older" info disappears. Frustrating, but I'm getting MUCH better.

Thank you all for your time and help. I wish I could help other people on this board, but like giving directions, it's best that I defer to people who know.
