"Memory is getting low" issue

I thought when I install aditional 4Gb memory I will stop getting this message..... As my computer geek brother had told me that my computer is designed only for 4Gb memory and it doesnt matter if I install more..... As u can see on my screenshot, at the top status bar, memory usage is showing that I have more memory available but the Logic quits anyway and I almost never seen memory being used more than 5Gb... Can anyone advice me how to deal with this "Memory is getting low" issue? I understand one way to deal with this is to bounce tracks to audio and disable plugins... I just am curious how come the free memory I have left unused doesn't cut it

a few things: you can search the forums, this has been discussed.

this happens to me (with 8GB ram) occasionally, after working on several different projects.

here's something you can do (and assuming you're on a macbook? see the battery indicator in your screenshot):

restart.

turn off wifi.

open ONLY logic...and go to work on the song you want to work on.

once you start working on different projects, and going online, and running other apps...strange things happen with ram.

and at some point, the dreaded memory warning will pop up again.

then repeat the steps above. works for me...

also, you should see the guidelines post, and put in your info in your signature....

In order that Logic can use the extra Ram above 4GB you have to run Logic in 64bit mode. Otherwise, running in 32bit mode only EXS (and Kontakt if you use it's built in memory server) can access the extra Ram above 4GB.

What plugins cause you issues running in 64bit mode? Have you updated all your plugins to the latest versions and/or installed the 64bit versions of these plugins?

I actually use Kontakt alot..... how do I use it's memory saver? I use Purge option, which is a big help but only started doing since last night and since then I have noticed improvement

Eric, n6smith and triplets thank you very much for the very useful help.... I made the changes, now in 64 bit, with Kontakt using memory server.... will see how everything works from now on

If you are running Logic in 64bit mode you don't (and shouldn't) run Kontakt's memory server as Logic and the 64bit version of the Kontakt AU will handle all that... You only need Kontakt's memory server if you use Logic in 32bit mode.

I didn't really like 64, maybe in the future it will be my choice... when all the plug ins i use will be in 64....

Sinc I changed kontakt to memory server my computer is now utilizing the extra memory..

upon trying to load Maschine onto a track, logic crashed again
