Badcatblackcat
Apologize in advance for being fairly midi-clueless. I have a Moog MF-104M analog delay. I would like to be able to sync the delay time on the Moog delay to the tempo of a Logic project I am working on. Is it possible to do this without a PhD in Astrophysics? I have the delay midi cabled to my midi interface (a MOTU micro lite) and "wired up" in Audio Midi Setup, but I am not sure of the specific settings or what would be required in Logic. Thanks in advance for the help.
David Nahmani
Look up the manual for your Moog and see if there is a way to remote control the delay with a MIDI event. It should tell you which MIDI event and which values to use. Then we can show you how to set those up in Logic.
Badcatblackcat
Thanks David. The manual says that delay time (as well as a bunch of other parameters) are midi controllable. It says the midi control change message number for delay time is 12 (MSB), 44 (LSB) -- and says that MSB/LSB refers to 14-bit midi and that MSB is for 7-bit resolution. David Nahmani
Ok so that's a start. And is there some kind of tempo parameter that you can feed the Moog via MIDI, or some clock signal that it can sync to?
Badcatblackcat
Does the following seem like what you're referring to? Quoting from the manual: ". . . Delay TIme . . . can be synchronized to MIDI System Realtime Clock messages. These messages are 24 ppq messages that can be sent via MIDI computer sequencers or from drum machines. To enable the sending of these messages, consult the user manual for your MIDI device. When the Analog Delay receives MIDI Clock message, the corresponding LED turns Orange to indicate that it is synchronized to the MIDI clock tempo. . . . Delay time MIDI sync is enabled via CC# 89." David Nahmani
Yes, exactly! To have Logic send MIDI Clock, go to Settings > Synchronization, click the MIDI tab and under MIDI Clock select Destination 1, then from the pop up below choose the MIDI Output where you connected your MoogerFooger.
