white noise snare

I am trying to get a white noise sound to use it as a snare or clap ( think the snare / white noise hit in NIN song closer ) , now would it be easier to just find a white noise sample and cut it up or do you think I could get the same sound maybe adding some reverb and distortion to a clap

No a clap with distortion won't sound the same, try a small burst of noise from any synth and make a fake transient with the enveloper, you could probably manipulate the envelope of the synth but I find the enveloper gives a better attack, depends on your synths envelopes I guess but the main part of that sound is just a short burst of noise.

 

Something like this maybe...Closer noise snare.aif.zip made in massive using the "bright" noise type and a touch of resonance with a tiny bit of attack from logics enveloper.

To create the impression of pitching white noise it is probably best to add a touch of resonance so there is something to pitch and then resample it into the exs24. Using the pitch wheel on that will sound like some mad filter.

 

The pitch on your synth won't do anything.
