deckard1
So I am currently using an M-Audio Fast Track C400 with Logic for my audio interface. My guitar sounds very thin and lacks clarity [that's the best way I can describe it]. I've used various plugins and created busses for reverb and delay but to no avail. I know it's more complicated than I am making it sound, but, could this be due to my cheap audio interface and would a nice audio interface such as the Apogee Duet 2 sound "better" and make a significant difference in sound quality? BTW, I am plugging directly into the Fast Track. . .not using a mic. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
David Nahmani
Is the input selector set to "instrument" (a.k.a. "front")? Is the pad off?
deckard1
Yes on both fronts. The input selector is set to instrument and the pad is off. Is it true that the Apogee Duet 2 only offers, for the most part, an improvement in sound quality for vocals. . .not necessarily guitar? That's what the guy at the Apple Store told me when I told him about my troubles with getting a "good" guitar sound. In short, he didn't think it would make much of a difference. So, I thought I would ask here. Thanks.
triplets
What guitar do you have, and what pickups are in it?
deckard1
What guitar do you have, and what pickups are in it? EVH Wolfgang Special. . .dual humbuckers.
triplets
The EVH guitars are good-sounding guitars, so the Duet won't make a difference. You could try something like an ART mic pre that has a tube in it, costs like 50 bucks or less, and go into the line input of the Fast track. I would start with that. Guitar plugins always sound thinner than mic'ing and amp up. No way around it.

I am glad I asked. . .I was ready to go out and buy a Duet 2. Will check out the ART mic pre like you suggested!
