kenbbrown
I want to know if it is possible to chop up the layers of a song when sample. Ex: to get only a guitar riff and take out the drums. Thanks
Eriksimon
It is possible, to some sonically pretty limited extent only, AND you'll still need extra software: Melodyne with a polyphonic algo, called DNA. It is by far the best software for this, but it'll still leave very audible traces on the remaining sound (Melodyne cannot separate two sounds of the same pitch, for instance). The process you're after is known in sugarmusicland as the equivalent of trying to "unbake a cake". I don't think it'll happen anytime soon. Or anytime later. Or anytime. Summary: forget it.
