gtrplyr6283
I am simply trying to get my sustain pedal to work with an external midi controller. PLEASE help. I'm using a Yamaha S08. I've got the Foot controller plugged into the foot switch jack of the S08 and the S08 plugged in as a controller into Logic. Logic acknowledges the keys being played, but the foot controller does nothing. I've got it set up as #64 in the S08. as I understand it, foot switch #64 is supposed to be sustain. Please instruct me as to a visual confirmation that logic is acknowledging the sustain pedal and how to make it work as a sustain!
David Nahmani
The visual confirmation is your MIDI input display in the transport bar: it says "no in" when no MIDI data is received by Logic, it tells you the pitch of a note if you press a key on your keyboard, and it should tell you that you're sending Controller #64 when you press your sustain pedal. Does it?
gtrplyr6283
It confirms the key strokes, but not the pedal. Where does it confirm the controller signal? In the transport? How do you set it up?
David Nahmani
It confirms the key strokes, but not the pedal. That means your keyboard is not sending the MIDI Sustain events. Where does it confirm the controller signal? In the transport? The Controller #64 is the type of MIDI event used for sustain, that your keyboard should send, so you should see it in the transport, yes. How do you set it up? You have to refer to your keyboard's manual for that.
gtrplyr6283
It tells me to choose 64 on the specified menu on the controller keyboard. I did. I tested it using the 1/4" audio jack into an amp and the sustain works. It doesn't work going into logic though. Must I do something into the environment? David Nahmani
No, there's absolutely nothing to do in Logic. If you see controller #64 in Logic's transport bar then it should work. If you don't see anything when pressing the pedal, then the keyboard is NOT sending anything.
