tarkmiddy
Hi, I've got a Logic Pro 9 file and within it have a vocal take which uses Polyphonic Flex to change the length of some of the vocals. Today for some reason instead of playing that audio section it simply cuts it out...for example I have a line where the vocal is 'and tear these walls down'. I've used flex to make 'down' longer however it simply doesn't play that section. It was working fine yesterday...I've tried restarting logic, my Macbook and going back to the backup file from yesterday and it still does the same. Any ideas on how can fix this and why it's happening? (There is no volume automation on the track and the volume bar doesn't change when the vocal doesn't play) Thanks
David Nahmani
Any 3rd party plug-ins such as Melodyne or Autotune on that track?
tarkmiddy
Nope. The plugins on that vocal track are: Chan EQ, Compressor, Limiter, Ensemble, Space Designer, Pitch Correction and DeEsser. The only third party plugin in the entire file is Toontracks EzDrummer
David Nahmani
Can you post a screenshot of that track with the region that doesn't play?
tarkmiddy
Yes...here it is http://youthworkresource.com/hosting/logicscreenshot.png The flexed area you can see is the area that doesn't play. Everything else around it plays fine.
Eriksimon
Just a side remark: I would put the Pitchcorrector first in the chain, or at the very least before the Ensemble plugin. extra edit: That goes more than doubly for the Denoiser - that should be the very first in the chain, putting it last makes it fairly useless, it might as well be bypassed... tarkmiddy
Thank you...I never realised the order of plugins mattered...I'm always learning new things in Logic!
tarkmiddy
It hasn't fixed the problem though... It's a bit strange because if I play it from close to the flex-ed section it works but if it's playing as part of the whole song it just drops that bit out...it's even strange as it was working fine the day before yesterday and all I did was change the mixer volume for the vocals! Eriksimon
Thank you...I never realised the order of plugins mattered...I'm always learning new things in Logic! Just visualize that the signal flows from top to bottom - due to the dynamics plugins (limiter, compressor) the noise in the signal will no longer be constant, it will fluctuate along with the happening compression or limiting, and the denoiser can't deal with those fluctuations; since it already is an iffy plugin (not very good really, too conspicuous sounding), it is best to use it very moderately, and as the very first plugin. Pitch correction should be applied before the signal hits any plugin, especially pitch modulators, such as Ensemble. Unless of course you are going for that specific effect of pitchcorrection correcting Ensemble detuning... note: this was not meant to solve your main issue though.
