Hearing live midi notes quantised

I cant find a way of making the quantize setting effect what I hear when I play. The notes sound out of time (true to my bad timing) but are recorded in time at my inspector quantize setting.

Is there a way to quantize the notes so that they sound at the specified division when played live ?

Thanks

I wouldn't do that if I were you; bad timing means that some notes are late, and they will not and cannot be quantised to be on time, as Logic cannot quantise events that haven't happened yet. So all you'll get when quantising live, is notes that are too late, but quantised.

If your bad timing is that you play everything early, than it might theoretically help, but all I can foresee is chaos, and even worse timing than you would have had without q.

Having said all that, I'm not even sure it is possible "live". I think the best Logic can do is sound the notes at the timing you played, but then perhaps placing them at quantised positions afterwards.

If you want to be a live musician, you just have to practise your playing I'm afraid. No 'autotime' for musicians. And I say musicians meaning someone with the ability to play notes at the right time.

Hi

"Live" quantisation is not possible. Recorded events are quantised when you stop recording.

As well as practice, the OP could also try slowing down the tempo whilst recording.

Its a shame that it doesn't work like that.

I do wish that people wouldn't make judgments about what it a good idea or not. In this case i was just jamming some beats on and it would have been useful.

Just answering the question without justifying logics behaviour would have been fine. Maschine has this ability its not impossible its fun and useful in some cases.

Point taken about Logic not knowing what I am about to play, hmm I guess I might be early all the time

Yeah, and I wish you had never replied, but hey, you have, it's too late, water under the bridge & spilled milk & all that.

You asked if it was possible, and we answered that it wasn't, and that it was a bad idea. It is still a bad idea, that has nothing to do with (psychological) judgementalness. It is simply physically impossible. And the notion that practice to achieve better timing is the only way (IF you want to play live), is also not judgmental, but a simple, commonsensical and inescapable truth.

Yeah, you're welcome. Next time I need someone to tell me how & what I should write, I'll drop you a line asking your permission.

Maschine cannot quantise late played notes to be in time. If it can, you don't have a sequencer, but a DeLorean.
