Monkeymonkey35
Hi All, New to this part of the forum. I'm looking to create a "visual score" of a piece for electronics and piano. So, my ideas would include the following: -Waveform or midi notation being scrolled from right to left in tempo -Grand staff appears with music that the pianist must play Any ideas? What program(s) you might recommend using to create this? Many thanks!
lookatthisguy
Why do you need a waveform or "MIDI notation" (and what do you mean by that, exactly?) scroll? Logic comes with a score tool built-in, so you could just learn how to use that one… Otherwise, the two go-to notation programs out there are Finale (which has a free version that should work for your piano part) and Sibelius (I don't know if they offer a free version—I use Finale). Monkeymonkey35
Hey, so it would scroll from right to left giving the pianist the benefit of not having to turn pages, as well as playing with the backing track (the electronics) that may not always have a pulse. It's a way of avoiding complex notation in the score and facilitating a more successful performance. Maybe this a job for Final Cut (or similar)? Monkeymonkey35
Oh, I almost forgot: this ( ) is what I meant by "midi notation." I assume that was computer generated... but with what?? Thanks

lookatthisguy
Yeah, based on the skimming I did through the description of that video, it looks like the guy used a program he designed himself, then edited video in Adobe Premiere. Again, I'm not sure if you want that for a pianist to play, or for a music video/VJ purpose, but there are apps out there that will scroll notated music for a performer to play like you want. The only one I know by name is SmartMusic; everything else I know about specifically are iPad apps.
Monkeymonkey35
Actually, I think the Music Animation Machine would work great. I don't think my idea was perfectly clear in my explanation. In other words, I will take output from my electronic "backing track", run it through MAM and then add a layer of notated piano music to that video. The pianist would then watch the output from that. Thanks for responses guys!
