Chris Athens
Hello I am thinking to upgrade my imac with an ssd. I have found various solutions with various prices. I dont know if it worths to pay for a super fast ssd that both reads and writes fast. In music production what is more important the read or the write speed ? My imac is the 10,1 with a 3GB link speed.
David Nahmani
In most cases, neither: the seek time is the most important parameter in music production: the shorter it is, the better.
Chris Athens
In technical specifications how the seek parameter is translated ? I looked in various ssd tech specs and there is no seek parameter available.
David Nahmani
It's just called seek time. For most SSDs this is really, really short anyway - which is probably why they rarely report it on their spec sheets. Sometimes you get a Read Access Time or Disk Access Time which while not exactly the same parameter, is equally important. For example Tom's Hardware measured the "Read Access Time" of many SSDs in 2009 (not sure if there's a more recent comparison): http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2009-flash-ssd-charts/benchmarks,48.html
