Can I trigger my external midi so I can edit my ext. synth?

I looked at a couple of tutorials about how to connect an external midi,

 

but what doesn't make sense to me is that when I loop the midi and audio tracks and try to edit the paramaters at the synth nothing is happening.

 

Is there a way to trigger the synth (Mopho on Logic Pro 9 Mac Book OSX.6.8),

 

like lets say I want to make a kick drum sound but don't want to be hitting the keyboard all the time,

 

I would like to create a midi event looped in logic that triggers the synth to perform automatically.

 

Is this possible or am I lost in the future?

Not sure how you're looping, but if you turn on cycle mode and adjust the cycle area to be around the MIDI region containing the MIDI note triggering your kick drum, then it will keep triggering your external synth.
