Bounces to mp3 result in low quality

Whenever I bounce a track to an mp3, it comes out crunchy, fuzzy, and noisy. When I bounce to an aiff the result is crisp and perfect, as it was played within Logic. Any ideas on how to fix this?

First, mp3 is a lossy compression algorithm, meaning that by definition it will yield a lower quality than a PCM file.

 

Next, you should use a higher bit rate for your mp3. 128 kbps really is the minimum to get any kind of halfway decent sound quality, and higher is better. It becomes a matter of how much quality you need vs how big a file you can handle (the bigger the file, the higher the audio quality).
