Cannot turn off input monitoring [SOLVED]

Hi, so I have a Macbook Pro retina with a blue yeti mic and OSX 10.8.4, and even after disabling software monitoring and auto input monitoring, I can still hear my voice through my earbuds. I looked around on google for help on this but even after doing the suggestions there, it still won't work.

What I want is to be able to hear just the metronome and record without my guitar/voice drowning out the metronome.

Thank you :)

even after disabling software monitoring (...) I can still hear my voice through my earbuds.

That means you're monitoring your voice through your audio interface, and not through Logic.

What I want is to be able to hear just the metronome and record without my guitar/voice drowning out the metronome.

You could leave software monitoring on and simply mute the guitar and voice channel strips during the recording. But even then you'll first need to disable the guitar and voice monitoring that's going on through your interface.

I think the mic itself is functioning as an audio interface, though I'm not familiar with the terminology so I could be wrong (my output and input devices are set to "Yeti Stereo Microphone"). And now that you mention it, when I click the input monitoring button on a track and software monitoring is enabled, it becomes even louder, probably because both the mic and logic are monitoring.

I still haven't found out how to turn off input monitoring on this Blue Yeti though.

I just found a solution:

There doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the direct input monitoring on the Blue Yeti as far as I can tell.

I set my output to built in output and plugged in my headphones in the audio jack of my laptop.

Thanks all

Great, that was a good idea, glad to hear it works.

Where were your headphones plugged-in before you plugged them to the Mac's headphone out?

I'm not familiar with the terminology

Audio interface simply means a device that adds audio inputs and/or audio outputs connections to your computer. A MIDI Interface would be a device that adds MIDI inputs and/or MIDI outputs to your computer. Etc...

My headphones were plugged in the headphone jack on my mic before. I think the mic will automatically monitor everything it hears, although I heard some windows users on some forums managed to accidentally turn it off.

Ah I see, then I guess this mic is indeed an audio interface. Thanks for the explanation!

A Mic with a headphone jack! I had never heard of that one before. Then you were right, your mic was acting as your audio interface, giving your computer both an audio input and an audio output.

If this is an issue for you you could research the mic's manual or even contact the manufacturer to ask them whether or not it's possible.

You're welcome. :)

I'm having the same issue.. Using focusrite Clarett 8Pre. I connected the Alesis Strike Pro but snare and kick sound is always there. I even turned off monitoring in preferences audio general. Still sound. When I'm not using any type of recording software there is still sound. Even in Focusrite control, I've turned off channel 1-2 but still sound. Whatever I do there is still sound in channel 1 and 2. Tried this with my guitar amp as well. Still sound using channel 1-2. Any idea what the issue might be?

Still sounds... in your headphones? How is the Strike Pro connected exactly?
