rhys
Is there a plugin available that can pick on a specific harmonic and suppress it? An Eq I hear you say, yes that is fine for static note but.... The only solution I can find at the moment is to resample after I have suppressed said harmonic but then I loose all the flexibility I had before
David Nahmani
I can't imagine such a plug-in.. it would have to track the pitch like a tuning plug-in... which as you probably know isn't a perfect solution (depending on the material, a pitch may or may not be detected, and even when one is detected, it can take time before it's detected... Having said that it wouldn't be the first time that I think something is probably not doable and then I later learn that there is a plug-in for it. Closest tool I know of would be Melodyne DNA, but as far as I know it won't let you access individual harmonics.
rhys
Hmmm good point, which leads me to think would it be possible to take one band from the channel EQ and some how tie it to midi note. I guess getting the position to be correct on every note would be a bit of challenge. That's even if it can be done?
David Nahmani
You know the easiest is probably to do it in Soundtrack Pro, manually? Do you have Soundtrack Pro? You can visualize the entire frequency spectrum on a timeline, and select bands of frequencies (in time) to delete them - here you see I've selected one harmonic from one guitar chord in a chord progression:

rhys
Yes I have Soundtrack Pro. Thanks David and Jordito, I will look into both these options. I don't mind paying for an in DAW solution as I haven't bought anything for a while. Will try the demo if there is one, just checking now. Btw the DMG looks like exactly what I had in mind
David Nahmani
Unfortunately it's not free or cheap (unless you already own other DMG Audio plug-ins) And you'd still have to automate the EQ to follow the harmonic if the instrument plays different pitches, right? Just downloaded the demo to play with it... crazy the amount of steps they make you go through just to set up the plug-in before you can start using it! Jordi Torres
And you'd still have to automate the EQ to follow the harmonic if the instrument plays different pitches, right? Yeah. Just downloaded the demo to play with it... crazy the amount of steps they make you go through just to set up the plug-in before you can start using it! Yes! It had to be done like that! This EQ is one crazy plug-in! Insane amount of control for whatever you want to do with it. It's like a playground for EQ geeks. J.

I bought it after a couple of days of demoing...it was also hard to resist the super discount I got for owning other DMG Audio plugs. J,
rhys
I downloaded the demo, its really cool!! Just noticed that it doesn't follow the notes like I thought but it is a very good plugin none the less. Thanks. I like the fact I can choose between ffr and iir amongst other crazy stuff. rhys
Ohhh and I think I've just solved my problem with a relatively simple solution, Ive mapped the synths EQ to the keyboard and fiddled around until its suppressing the area I want pretty much all across the keyboard
Jordi Torres
Just noticed that it doesn't follow the notes like I thought Maybe I misunderstood? You can set the frequency of each band based on the notes on the keyboard (by click and dragging an existing node on the keyboard or double-clicking on specific notes), quantized by semitones in a 440Hz-based equal temperament scale. Glad you liked the plug-in,I love it but I'm still digesting al it's features... J.

David Nahmani
Just noticed that it doesn't follow the notes like I thought Maybe I misunderstood? Ideally rhys would have liked a solution that automatically follows a specific harmonic. So for example, an EQ that automatically adjusts its frequency parameter as you play a new pitch in order to always EQ out harmonic #4.
Jordi Torres
Oh I see....keyboard tracking. OK. J.

My solution is ok but not ideal obviously the q isn't very narrow or even adjustable. So you can dig to deep without it affecting other frequencies, clearly no where near as good as notching out with an eq. But I guess it demonstrates how simply it could potentially be implemented. David Nahmani
I believe Soundtrack Pro would be easier to use than an EQ for this application. Just select the harmonic of one chord/note, delete, move on to the next note/chord, etc.
