MikeyC
I have a weird distortion on my input, that unfortunately affects the recording as well. I've linked to samples below, and here's what I've tried, to no avail: - different electrical outputs - two other DAWs - different audio interface - reinstalled OS All this didn't change a thing. The only thing that eases the noise for half a minute, is when I set the audio buffer from anything to anything else (see samples below). I recently moved and had to set up everything again, plus I upgraded from Snow Leopard to OS X 10.8.4., those are the changes to before this occurred. When it gets bad, it sounds like this (on a clean guitar input): http://k002.kiwi6.com/hotlink/da4iwh7ydj/weirdnoise.mp3 After setting a different buffer, it gets a little better (sometimes it's even gone for half a minute): http://k002.kiwi6.com/hotlink/4w9qs357c8/noise_2.mp3 A noise gate is fading the sound out. If there's no audio input, these weird effects don't occur. Does anyone know what this is and how to remedy it? Thanks in advance for your help! David Nahmani
Have you tried plugging something to your Mac's audio input and recording with the built-in interface? Have you installed the most recent drivers for your other audio interfaces? I would also check with their manufacturers to see if they're aware of any incompatibility issues with 10.8.4. MikeyC
Simple and genius, as always, David! Interesting result: the update of my pretty new Steinberg UR28M introduced a different kind of noise, still bad, and impossible to use for recording. But my decade old, discontinued Line6 Toneport actually had an official update addressing precisely this problem! Way to go Line6! Thanks for steering me in the right direction. You know, when I point out Logic's advantages to others, this forum is one of the key selling points.
David Nahmani
You know, when I point out Logic's advantages to others, this forum is one of the key selling points. Wow, thanks for saying this - this is huge! I'm glad I was able to help a bit. Now to contact Steinberg and ask them if they are aware, or make them aware of the issue! MikeyC
I'm on it, weird that Steinberg hasn't addressed this with a current product, while Line6 offers an update for what they call a "legacy" product. And I'm not kidding about the forum. Lots of members have been helpful, but whenever I didn't get an immediate answer you've consistently been there, helping me out usually within 24 hours. So thanks again, you've saved me a lot of time and nerves over the years. I hope apple knows what you're doing for their product because I'm sure others feel the same way. vaultboy
I'm running into this exact issue... I've experienced it on my Apogee One as well as my Focusrite 2i2, both of which have the most current drivers. Logic X is up-to-date as well. Whenever I change the buffer size, it'll sound normal for a few seconds, but distorts the second I try to record anything. This happens no matter what I/O Buffer / Process Buffer Range settings I choose. If it's helpful, I have a new 27" iMac w/ 10GB RAM and the quad i7's, so it's not like I'm pushing the computer too hard Any help or advice would be *greatly* appreciated as I'm supposed to have this guitar part done tonight! Hahaha Thanks all
