jkrisanda
This a long question, so I apologize in advance on my attempt to properly describe my issue/questions (see full list of what I'm using below): Having constant issues with MIDI Assignments in both Logic Pro 9 (latest version) and Mainstage (2.2.2) I've created a setup with Audio/MIDI setup in Mac/ Utilities. I'm not quite sure that what I'm doing in this setup is correct. Many times when starting either Mainstage or Logic Pro, it will hang-up on the MIDI ... and I'll have to force quit and restart the computer. So something isn't set up properly on my end. Apple Audio/MIDI setup in Utilities: 1. My main issue is that all my 'controllers' show up with ports pointing DOWN, as well as my MOTU Interface facing down. This includes my keyboard and Apogee GIO. You can't connect ports that show as pointing down. I've also created an icon for the keyboard with it connected to the Interface, but this seems to duplicate the Keyboard? So, my first question would be, if a controller is connected via USB, do you need to make a MIDI connection to the interface (USB is updated MIDI anyway)? 2. Am not using IAC Driver ... should I be? 3. Should I physically disconnect any USB device I'm not using before booting up Logic or Mainstage Example: Not using GIO for Logic & Not using Mackie Universal Control for Mainstage 4. Am using GIO stomp buttons to control 'Channel Mute' assigned in Layout ... works fine, and Volume Pedal assigned for Channel Volume selected in Layout ... again works fine In Mainstage. Do not use it for Logic. Here is what I'm using, and I'll separate this into Logic vs. Mainstage: Logic ... for recording, I'm using the Mackie Universal Control Surface with Logic setting. The keyboard controller for input, as well as the EWI ( 2 controllers, or 3 if you count the Mackie) MacBook Pro (2010) running OSX10.8.4 w/ 8GIGs RAM MOTU Traveler Interface CME MIDI Keyboard Controller (USB) Mackie Universal Control Surface (USB) EWI/Electronic Woodwind Instrument (MIDI) connected via MIDI IN on Interface Apogee GIO (USB - not using this for Logic, but it is still connected) Mainstage ... am using the GIO as a 'hands free' controller for separate audio channel 'MUTE'. Play three different saxes, that have separate channels with gain/eq/efx settings ... with one wireless mic. This works great. GIO foot pedal assigned to control volume of EWI (MIDI Channel 2 send) via channel assignment. Also using CME Keyboard Controller on audio channel (MiDI Channel 1 send). No MIDI outs are being used. MacBook Pro (2010) running OSX10.8.4 w/ 8GIGs RAM MOTU Traveler Interface EWI/Electronic Woodwind Instrument (MIDI) connected via MIDI IN on Interface Apogee GIO (USB)

Check Macintosh HD:Library:Audio:MIDI Drivers for devices you are not using and remove them. Apple Audio/MIDI setup in Utilities: 1. You should not need a "Keyboard" icon (although I vaguely remember an Edirol inteface that did need one). Delete the keyboard and see if everything still works. 2) You should not need the IAC (Inter-Application). 3) You should generally not need to for Logic or MS, though MS can sometimes get a bit confused if the devices are not 'the same as it was expecting" CCT
