Terrapin
Hello all, I'm new here and sincerely apologise if this question has been raised before... I've noticed that the level of my mix has been creeping up to the point that it seems to be clipping. It's a 20 minute epic with over 100 tracks and lots of automation. Is there a way to bring down the level of each track and keep the relative automation levels the same? Again, apologies if this has been brought up before and many thanks in advance. Best Regards, T
David Nahmani
Is there a way to bring down the level of each track and keep the relative automation levels the same? Yes: simply turn down the Stereo Out level fader.
Terrapin
Thanks David, Does that apply if the some of the individual tracks are clipping? Please forgive my ignorance, but I would have thought it be better to bring down the individual tracks rather than rely on adjusting the master fader? Thanks again, T
David Nahmani
Does that apply if the some of the individual tracks are clipping? Yes. In Logic's 32 bit floating point engine, individual channel strips can go over 0 dBFS, and as long as you turn the Stereo Out fader to get your signal back below 0 dBFS at Logic's output you're not clipping. In fact you can test that for yourself with an apple loop and a bunch of gain plug-ins all maxed out (to make it go completely in the red) and then bring back the level on the Stereo Out, you'll hear no clipping. Please forgive my ignorance, but I would have thought it be better to bring down the individual tracks rather than rely on adjusting the master fader? It would yield the same results: See Guide to Levels in Digital Audio
