Erik E
I want to exchange files with a bassist who uses a Roland VS-2400. I think that the .Wav or .Mp3 tracks can be transferred without a problem, but what about building tracks in an entire "Project' (effects etc.- built from scratch) from the Roland? Can these 2 units work together so we can combine our efforts into one finalized Project? Thanks Erik E
David Nahmani
The project structures are not compatible (they never are between devices except for devices from the same manufacturer, for example GarageBand is compatible with Logic). But you can always export individual tracks as wav files and line them up again in a new Logic project.
Erik E
Thanks David. It helps. Can "Lining up the individual tracks" on a recorder be relatively easy?
David Nahmani
It can be extremely easy if you've done a bit of preparation: - if it's possible to export wav files from the Roland that are all supposed to start at the same position (for example bar 1 beat 1). - If it's possible to record a percussive sound such as you clapping your hands on all tracks at the same time to have a "sync point". It may also be possible to sync the Roland to MIDI?
Erik E
OK- maybe a click track on the Roland to start (4-10 beats)- and then he exports all the tracks into Dropbox- and then I import these tracks to Logic Pro- plus add my inputs (drums) over the timed click track and the other aligned tracks?? I then send all of these back to the Roland through Dropbox?... I have moved tracks together on Garageband, so maybe your idea will work. Any feedback helps! David Nahmani
That sounds to me like plan. When ready to export your drums, in Logic click the Preferences icon (toolbar at the top) and choose Audio, click the "General" tab and set your Track Mute/Solo to "CPU-Saving (slow response)". Then solo all the drum tracks in your Arrange area and choose File > Export > All Tracks as Audio Files. That way you only export your drum tracks, no need to re-export his original tracks. Erik E
Cool... I will let the bass guy know what has transpired. I hope to get a Logic Pro if it seems all kosher to him! Erik E
