Bigseal
Hi Guys and Moderators, My objective is to transfer Logic Pro 9 keyboard software from my Mac Pro (the source machine) to Main Stage 2 in my new Mac Mini late 2012 or 2013 (destination machine) for live performances. I just spent a grueling day trying to transfer Logic Pro 9 and Main Stage 2 applications from Mac Pro to Mac Mini. I used Firewire (rebooting Mac Pro while holding down T) and Mini Mac came up with my home drive and additional work drive on the its desktop BUT only Logic Pro 8 and Main Stage 1 was inside the Applications folder? What would be the best and most professional way to transfer these files and other files, seeing as the Mac Mini does not have a CD/DVD disc drive? I did not realize this when I bought it. I may exchange for a Macbook Pro with disc drive. I hope you can point me in the right direction so I can rehearse with my band with it on Monday 8 July. Happy Thanks Giving Day and thanks for your help in anticipation, Bigseal http://www.davidolist.talktalk.net
Jordi Torres
What would be the best and most professional way to transfer these files and other files, seeing as the Mac Mini does not have a CD/DVD disc drive? Not transferring them at all. Instead, install them from scratch on the Mac Mini. Since the Mac Mini doesn't have a CD drive, you'll have to create disc images from the DVD's on the Mac Pro using disk utility. Them put these images in the Mac Mini, mount them and install. This has the added bonus of being a real fast install method, as the data is read from the images on a hard drive...as opposed to data read from an DVD spinning in an optical drive. J. Bigseal
Hey Thanks, how do I put the disc images from Mac Pro disk utility onto my Mac Mini? Can I install Logic Pro music sessions to the Mac Mini this way too?
Jordi Torres
After you make images of the DVD's with Disk Utility on the Mac Pro, you can take them to the Mac Mini however you like...use an external drive, a pen drive, etc. And yes, you can move your Logic projects from one machine to the other this way as well. Bigseal
Hi, thanks I just made first image of Logic Pro Install took a long time
Jordi Torres
Yeah, making the images will take quite a bit of time. But you'll never have to make them again. You'll be able to mount them all at the same time and the actual installation will be quite fast. If your mac mini has a fast drive (SSD or 7200 RPM HDD), even better. J. CCTMusic
Hi You could also use the OSX Remote Disc facility: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5287 CCT
Bigseal
Thanks, my Mac Mini is 2.3 QC/2x2G/1TB/AP/BT with 8 Gb of Ram. How do I mount them all at the same time on the Mac Mini? From there do I just click them to install? Do I have to add Serial numbers from Logic Pro 8 as well as 9 and then go to Apple Logic for updates for Mountain Lion. Where do I find the updates? Many thanks, Bigseal
Bigseal
I'm finding OSX Remote Disc procedure hard to understand which method gives best results? I'm on Audio Content 1 for Logic Pro 9 now in Disc Utility. Also I can't access hotmail on the Mac Mini?
CCTMusic
Hi Ultimately, it is handy to have disk images of the DVD's... makes installation much quicker if you have to do it a lot. CCT
Jordi Torres
How do I mount them all at the same time on the Mac Mini? Double click the images. Do I have to add Serial numbers from Logic Pro 8 as well as 9 and then go to Apple Logic for updates for Mountain Lion. The Logic 9 serial should be all you need. But, yes, before you run Logic (Mainstage, and the rest of Logic Studio programs you intend to use), and make sure you update them to their latest version using Software Update. J. Bigseal
I downloaded DVD or CD Sharing setup but it says my Mac Mini already has a later version? But I can't find it on the computer?
Bigseal
Many Thanks, I'll continue with Disc Utility. I am using settings, Image format: compressed, Encryption: none is this correct?
Jordi Torres
Many Thanks, I'll continue with Disc Utility. I am using settings, Image format: compressed, Encryption: none is this correct? I've never used the compressed option, but I think it should be fine. Why don't you try the one you've already done to confirm? J.
triplets
Many Thanks, I'll continue with Disc Utility. I am using settings, Image format: compressed, Encryption: none is this correct? Don't use compressed. Use non-compressed. You want an exact copy.
Bigseal
Oh, I copied everything as compressed to my desktop on Mac pro but did not transfer those files yet. I don't know exactly what you mean, but the options on Disk Utility are: read-only compressed read/write DVD/CD master So which one should I choose? ( I did a transfer yesterday from my Mac Pro to Mac Mini: restart pressing T (Mac Pro is recognised as an external disc) and my discs showed up on my Mini Mac but not all the applications were there, but Logic Pro 8 was? So I loaded Logic Pro 8 and all the software organs, etc. showed up.)
