Hard panned tracks still heard on ipod

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

Basically I want to use my ipod for backing tracks for a gig in two weeks, just need something simple!

So I mixed down some of the backing track samples to one mono track and panned that hard right, then put a click track in and panned it left.

Bounced it down and in itunes it plays great! Each channel is isolated. But on my ipod their is spill over between left and right.

Now I brought a 3.5mm stereo jack to two 6.3mm female, splitter lead. So i can send one channel to FOH and one to the drummer's in ears. Ive plugged this into my laptop and then headphones into that, and it plays both channels as if ive plugged into the laptop.. Now the packaging doesn't say anything on it, so could it be stereo to stereo? I didnt actually thank that existed with Y cables..

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here! Please help aha

Cheers

Ok so I bounced it as an AIFF, played in Itunes fine. If I mute the left or right speaker their is no bleed at all (same as MP3).

But when I uploaded it to my ipod it didn't play, the bar was stuck at 0. So.. I used itunes to create an AIFF version of a file thats already AIFF, and now it works BUT their is bleed over each channel.. On itunes it plays perfectly each channel is isolated still.

Running out of ideas here aha

oh yeh my logic is 9.1.8 :)

Your iPod probably doesn't support 24-bit files. This is why you are having problems with playback.

It is however strange that you get bleed from its output. Do you have any sound enhancement processing going on on the iPod?

Check your sound settings to be sure.

I'll mess around with the bouncing options on Logic later to see if I can get them to play on an ipod.

I don't think so no, I looked at the playback options on the ipod and changed everything and still got bleed. I know on itunes that the sound enhancer will cause bleed, but their doesn't seem to be that option on the ipod. Unless the sound enhancer is always on?

It's strange cause I hear about people using ipod's for backing tracks all the time and they say it works great.
