oatmeal14m
Hello! I recently finished my album's instrumentals on Logic and I will be moving onto vocals as soon as possible. I have never worked with vocals before. All of the effects I put on my vocals give my singing a slightly auto-tuned, distorted sound very similar to Kanye's song "Amazing" - I know a lot of this will be in the effects I choose, but does anyone have a recommendation for a mic I could buy that would be well suited for this style of singing? I am baritone like Kanye, as well. The range I am looking at is $100-$350. I was thinking perhaps the AT2035, but honestly have no clue. Any leads in the right direction ar highly appreciated! Thanks!
triplets
With that budget there's not a lot of possibilites. Try the AKG Perception 220 or an MXL 2003.
oatmeal14m
I'm open to a lot, as I don't know much about mics at all. If budget were not a factor, what kind of things would I keep an eye out for?
oatmeal14m
Would the Shure SM7B be a good fit for this? It is $350 and seems to be everything I might need for a lower price.
steveo12ax7
SM7B might be nice, I've had good experiences with my Rode NT2A, and maybe even the NT1A (although some people say the 1A has a harsh top end). Also, if you're going to be distorting/compressing the vocal a lot, you might get some interesting results just using an SM58 and cupping it in your hand.
