thebluesvolcano
Ive spent an age on this so perhaps you guys can sort me out once and for all. Im trying to set up live looping in MS with a GIO footswitch. What I want is to be able to create (say) 3 loops then record and clear them individually and keep them all playing and in sync. I thought there must be an easy way to do this but it seems impossible. If you put them all on the same group they all record and playback fine but then when you want to clear one it clears them all so that dont work. I then try putting them in different groups but then operating any button in one group stops the other so that isnt right either. Ive tried doing them all at concert level or all on one patch or all on different patches or sets and they still work the same way. The only other way I can think of is loads of loopers and muting them instead of clearing them but that sounds daft, surely you should be able to just select a loop and clear it and re-record without it affecting the other loops Can it be done or do I have to look at Ableton to do this? For that matter am I right in assuming this is something Ableton can do. It seems to me MS is best for playing pre-recorded loops but Im looking for a 'jamming live' experience

hashimoto
...you're right...the only way for you would be to have multiple loopback instances and then mute one (instead of clearing it) if you don't need it anymore...i worked with a setup of 3 loopback plugins and that was o.k. in a very basic fashion until...i discovered the freeware "mobius looper"...this is the swiss knife of looping tools...really!...the only downside: (right now) it's 32bit only... CCTMusic
Hi Im trying to set up live looping in MS with a GIO footswitch. I thought there must be an easy way to do this but it seems impossible. The solution is NOT to group the LoopBacks. Set them to Sync ON, Play from whatever makes sense, and Snap to Bar, beat etc Ie they operate independently, but synchronised. You will need to manually set up controls for each one. .i discovered the freeware "mobius looper"...this is the swiss knife of looping tools...really!...the only downside: (right now) it's 32bit only... No good for MS 3 ... 64bit only CCT

A solution might be to get a FCB1100 floorboard as that has loads of banks. Ill have a look at Mobius Looper too. Cheers

jsbaker
Unless something has changed (I gave up on using MainStage last year because of reliability issues), the looper in MainStage is not up to snuff for accurate live-performance looping. I spent quite a few hours experimenting with it. Hardware loopers are best (Boomerang, etc). If you prefer integrated software looping, Mobius is the best I've tried with MainStage (and free), but there is a steep learning curve if you want to customize it for your needs, create MIDI bindings, get ports to work correctly with MainStage, etc. I thought it was worth the effort, though, and the Mobius forum is active and helpful.
