Lautarese
Hello, I'm experiencing about a 2 second delay after hitting the play button on the transport window or keying the space bar to initiate playback. I have many many tracks but they are all frozen. My I/O buffer size is set to 256. I've moved it up and down in either direction with no success. I haven't opened this project for about 3 months and I don't recall it doing this when I left it. The odd thing is earlier versions of the project that are almost the same don't exhibit this problem. Thanks all. Lautarese
triplets
How many undo steps do you have in your Logic preferences? Default is 30, which can be too much for certain computers. Also, how much ram do you have? Are you running Logic in 64-bit?
Lautarese
I've got 10 gigs of RAM, I'm running the 32 bit Logic and I've kept it at the default undo setting of 30. Thanks.
Lautarese
I've discovered something that I believe is causing the problem but I don't know how to correct it. My earlier version of this project barely spikes my HD useage meter. The most recent version is sending my HD usuage meter into the red. The newer version has a dozen live vocal tracks. I've frozen these track to save CPU but what do I do to put less stress on the HD? Thanks Lautarese
Lautarese
Oh, I forgot to add that all my Logic files are on external HD's. I tried moving the files to my main HD to see if it made a difference and that didn't help. Initially I thought it might be a Firewire transmission problem L
Lautarese
OK, I've been working on this and taken steps to reduce the drag on the HD. I've lowered the number of undo steps to 10 and raised the I/O buffer to 1026. Neither had any effect.
Eric Cardenas
I have many many tracks but they are all frozen. This is probably your problem right there. Try unfreezing some of the tracks. Frozen tracks are written to disk as 32-bit floating files. Which sample rate are you working at? How many tracks are frozen?
Lautarese
PROBLEM SOLVED Hello Eric, Unfreezing seems to have done the trick. I had over 100 tracks in the project, most of them were frozen. My sample rate is set at 44.1 for the project. I am not a long time user of Logic, (obviously!), and I have been making a habit of freezing as many tracks as possible to avoid getting the Pinwheel of Death when having a large number of live and software instrument tracks. I will have to experiment w/ the right balance of frozen and unfrozen track. MANGE TAK! Jason Lautar
triplets
Try with the highest buffer setting to see at what point you get CPU overload in order to start freezing tracks.
Lautarese
Higher buffer settings can result in more latencey. Yes? Thanks.
triplets
The rule is the following: For recording, have the buffer at the lowest buffer setting to decrease latency. For mixing, put the buffer higher or at the highest point to avoid straining the CPU and create system overloads (spinning beach ball).
Eric Cardenas
PROBLEM SOLVED MANGE TAK! You're welcome Jason!
Lautarese
Yes, I've heard rule concerning buffer settings. But as your work progresses it is a moving target as you add more live audio and software instruments . It is something which I should probably pay more attention to. Thanks Triplets
redlogic
I've got 10 gigs of RAM, I'm running the 32 bit Logic... You'll get a lot more mileage out of that 10 gigs of RAM if you run Logic as 64 Bit.
Lautarese
How do I switch from 32 to 64 and will it effect work I've already done. Thanks. L
