Hi everybody,

I have a Vermona Kick Lancet and can’t get it to work in logic. I hope you can help me out! ( I have Logic Pro 9.0.0 installed)

I tried different tutorials and either i missed something or i am just plain stupid. I hope it’s the first one.

First of all, I will explain how i configured my cables and all, hoping i didn’t go wrong there.

My soundcard is a traktor audio 10. The midi cable goes from the Vermona midi in to the midi out of the soundcard. I have a cable from the Vermona output which goes to Channel 10 In/Out from the soundcard.

I opened up the audio midi setup, and made two new devices. One is called ‘Vermona’ and the other one is called Traktor Audio 10. I connected both devices to each other, as you can see in 'picture 1' i uploaded as attachment.

Next up, i created a new external midi track and the media button opened up on the right side. Since the output from the Vermona goes to the input of channel 10 of my soundcard, i selected channel 10.

As you can see in 'picture 2' i uploaded, i’ve selected ‘port traktor audio’ and ‘channel 10’, assuming this was the right choice.

In the tutorial i’ve been watching (http://bit.ly/RC7XDx) it says ‘you should be able to trigger your midi device right now’ but i don’t hear anything.

When i make a midi region in the track and create some notes in it, i can see that the sound card is receiving sound. It blinks. Next to the mute button in logic, i can see that whenever a note is played, it blinks too. But i don’t hear anything.

I have been trying to get this thing to work all afternoon and nothing happens.

I tried to explain everything as clear as possible and really hope you can help me.

Kind regards.

Ok I can help you with that but you have to realize that a lot of those tutorials aren't accurate, or are doing things the hard way, so please bear with me, forget what you learned in those tutorials and let's start over from scratch:

The midi cable goes from the Vermona midi in to the midi out of the soundcard. I have a cable from the Vermona output which goes to Channel 10 In/Out from the soundcard.

You need a single MIDI cable from the MIDI out on the soundcard into the MIDI in on the Vermona (cables always go FROM an OUT and INTO an IN). Disconnect the other cable for now.

I opened up the audio midi setup, and made two new devices. One is called ‘Vermona’ and the other one is called Traktor Audio 10. I connected both devices to each other, as you can see in 'picture 1' i uploaded as attachment.

You don't need any of this. Open Audio MIDI Setup, open the MIDI window and choose "New..." from the Configuration pop-up menu at the top of the MIDI Window. Name it. This creates a new blank default configuration. That's all you need. Close Audio MIDI Setup.

Now in Logic create an external MIDI track and in the Library you should see the Traktor MIDI Out port and be able to choose a MIDI channel to send onto. Choose one.

From now on any MIDI notes you play on your MIDI Controller, or any notes in regions on that track are routed to the MIDI Out port on the Traktor, which is cabled into the MIDI In port on the Vermona.

Hi David,

Thank you very much for your fast reply. Those tutorials can be confusing indeed!

Right now i have one midi cable from the Vermona MIDI in to the soundcard MIDI out. I disconnected the other cable. So there is only one midi cable from the vermona MIDI in and ofcourse the standard adapter cable.

I opened Audio MIDI setup, chose ‘new’ from the configuration and named it ‘new vermona’. In the new MIDI studio i can see three things: IAC driver, Network (both of which i don’t think are that important) and traktor audio 10. I didn’t do anything with it.

I created a new external MIDI track and in the library i saw traktor audio 10 (which i assume is the traktor MIDI out port)

I created an empty midi region in the external instruments track and draw some notes in it. I also triggered the vermona, but i am still hearing nothing. I really wonder what is going wrong.

Hope you can help me out again! I would be really thankful for that.

Kind regards

Hi David,

My monitors are connected to a master out of a mixer, a Pioneer DJM 400. A cable goes into the 'CD' input of one of the two channels and is connected to the traktor main output.

First i thought i had something to do with the mixer. So I tried without the mixer, plugging the monitors straight into the main out of the traktor. I think having a mixer in between does not make a difference, because i still don't hear anything.

When i plug in headphones and trigger the Vermona, i hear sound. But when i create a midi region in an external instruments track, i hear nothing.

I chose audio/midi configuration, opened up a new configuration, named it, left it untouched for the rest. Opened up logic, chose external midi device. In the library i chose traktor audio 10, chose channel 1, created an empty midi region and drew some notes. Midi cable goes from the Vermona midi in to the traktor midi out. There is no cable from the vermona output going anywhere.

When the notes should be heard, the little light-thing next to the mute button blinks, so there is signal coming in. The 'out' sign of the traktor soundcard also blinks when the notes should be heard. But no sound.

Hope i answered your question right. If something is unclear, let me know.

Kind regards.
