mrlolly
How can I delete the speech synthesis plug in - it doesn't appear in the components folder - am I missing something?
teedoff087
It's located in /System/Library/Components. I've removed it without any noticeable consequences, but I'd err on the safe side and make a backup of the file first. Right-click > Compress "AUSpeechSynthesis.component" and move the .zip file from the Desktop to a safe place.
Eriksimon
I think it will cripple the text to speech capabilities of your OS. Also, it is not guaranteed that removing it will solve your hang problem - the displayed text is not necessarily the cause. It's just that that text is also stuck. So please let us know if ditching that plugin did it.
mrlolly
You were right Erik, It really made no impact. I deleted the system/library / component and the AU manager still finds the Speech aSynthesis plugin and flags it as in compatible. Any other suggestions?
