Trying to import a 32 bit wav into Logic, won't work...

Hi guys,

I have some drum samples that I'm trying to import to Logic. They are 32 bit and Logic is giving me a warning saying that they will not work. I've converted them to 24 bit and they work fine.

I can understand if 32 bit isn't supported, BUT here is the catch. Someone on another forum has no problem using the same samples. (Link:http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/andy-sneap/298998-logic-wont-let-me-open-andys-samples-32-bit-warning.html)

Am I missing a setting I need to change here or something?? Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

You can't use 32 bit floating point audio files in Logic. You need 16 or 24 bit files.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by "floating point"? I just wonder how this other guy could have used em, stumps me.

Also, seeing that you're a trainer, do you think the quality difference between 24 and 32 bit samples would be that noticeable to fuss about? I listened through on my monitors and it was very hard to tell.

Logic uses 32 bit floating point arithmetic for its audio engine calculations, and when you freeze a track it is frozen to a 32 bit floating point audio file. But you can not drag and drop or in any way import that file directly onto a track.

You have to use 16 or 24 bit audio files.

Ok, I gotcha...Cool thanks. I have no problem using the 24 bit files anyway. So essentially, the quality difference will be very small at best? they sound good anyway, I'm just curious.

thanks again,

Logic will not accept the files! What could be the issue?

Not the bit depth: Logic has no problem dealing with both 16 and 24 bit audio files.

What sample rate are those wave files? How many channels? Where do they come from?

Do you get an alert when you're trying to use them? What happens?

the files are 16 bit, 24 bit and some are 32 bit even. some are stereo and some of the files are mono but they're all 44.1 files. they're custom made music producer kits purchased from some of the top soundclick producers websites. when i load them into the exs24 to build a kit it only loads a few of the sounds from the kit, im thinking the 16 bit ones. when i play those back the sounds are prolonged with this awful annoying airiness/distortion to them! what to do from here on out is the question even for the 24 bit files...
