Automation: Bypassing Insert 1 - trouble

I have a stylus groove with a telephonesqe Chann Eq on position 1 of my channel strip. At measure X I wish to take off that EQ and let it play at normal EQ level.

 

So I set up a insert bypass #1 in the automation window and when it reaches the bypass point I lose all signal. What am i doing wrong?
