Multipressor vs. Audio Unit Multiband Compression

I'm curious how Logic's Multipressor plugin compares to the AU equivalent, AUMultibandCompressor. Is one better than the other? Are they the same thing?

Thanks-in-advance,

Mike

they both suck if you ask me, i like waves l3, and vintage warmer

They are functionally similar although they sound very different. The lack of the GUI in the AU plug can be either a blessing or a curse depending on how you do things. I've played with the AU a bit to "give it a chance." But in the end I couldn't get it to sound the way I wanted. I have had good luck with Logic's Multipressor, however and use it more to compress vocals, believe it or not, without introducing audible pumping. Overall, multiband compressors are subtle animals that you don't want to overuse. I recall a post on another forum that said well: if you don't know when you need a multi-band compressor then you don't need one. It's amazing what can be done with plain old single band compression, especially with side chain ability.

Thanks for the response, Scrofan. I've been using MultiPressor on a very mild setting (parameters recommended in an article in SoundOnSound) to give a touch more presence to some rhythmic/world-music cues. Lately I've wanted to decouple the "mastering" process from the main cue bounce, so I'd have more options and could change the compression after the fact. I'd ideally like to find an AU plugin I can use with Sample Manager, and was hoping that the Apple-provided one would be functionally identical to MultiPressor. Perhaps I'll have to search elsewhere.

For multiband compression and actually dynamic eq, which I like better anyway, the CQ1 and DQ1 from Sonalksis impressed me when I tried them. They may be the AU plugs that you seek. Not cheap though. I couldn't make the leap myself.
