Core Audio Meter gets to high

I keep the core audio/cpu meter opened up in Logic. I notice that the audio meter will continue to rise as I work with various sounds until it has almost peaked. Hitting the space bar causes an overload and then it resets. Is there something I can add, perhaps in the environment that will stop this? Maybe a "note off" or something that I can connect into the midi signal chain so that when I change sounds it will reset without causing an overload?

I guess I'm talking about the system performance meter. The left column on the meter gradually builds up until I hit the space bar, then it goes down to nothing.
