Logic 9 crashes when opening Garage Band project

I have a guy that I work with and our system is that he creates a basic song/rough tracks at home in Garage Band on his ipad (to save studio time), then we import the file and I open the project in Logic and we redo gtrs, bass, vocals with better mics, pre's etc and do some enhancement on his virtual instruments/ sends etc. That's been working fine, but now the files are crashing logic upon opening. I even tried to open with GB but a message came up that I needed to update GB. This procedure worked fine in logic 3 weeks ago...I have GB version 6.0.5 and Logic 9.1.8
