Map Midi Melody Track Onto Separate Midi Rhythm Track?

Hello,

 

What I would like to do is reassign midi pitch in real time while leaving the rhythmic elements alone.

 

I know I can use the "transpose" midi effect to reassign all incoming midi info to conform to a specific chord or scale. But as far as I know, this is a static process: once I've defined a chord, that's it for that track.

 

I'd like to take this a step further and reassign new chords and scales in real time. Ideally I could create a melodic midi track and map those melodies on to a separate rhythmic midi track.

 

Any thoughts on this? Perhaps a plug-in that helps? Or something to do with the environment (something I don't have any experience with...)?
