Pro Logic X crash when save as

Anybody have a fix for pro logic x crashing when you try to "save as". It will "save" , but if you "save as", it crashes and auto save doesn't seem to work every time ....

Are you doing the Save As on the same HD than the file was saved on, or another drive?

I am tryin to "save as" on the same HD that the original file is on. The file was originally saved on the same HD as a pro logic 9 file if that makes a difference . Then I got logic x and I had to save it as a logic x file. Every time I tried to "save as" , it crashed every time.....

Yes it does make sense. Can you tell us what kind of hard drive(s) you're using, what capacity it (they) have, and how much space is left available (on each drive if several are involved)? Also please click this link to your signature and add your system information:

How much is "plenty"? For each drive? For reference, I recommend a minimum of 20% empty space, so that's 200GB for a 1TB, which may (or may not) qualify as "plenty" to you. If that's not it (if you have over 200GB free space available on both drives) then I would try repairing the drive with Disk Utility.

ran disc utility which didn't show anything to do with logic ....fixed them all anyways... tried to "save as" and it crashed again....any other ideas or ways around this issue. i need to be able to save new versions without losing the previous versions...

David, one other thing, i have heard from my IT friend that 10.9 causes a lot of problems for him at work in other areas. i see that u run OS 10.8.4.... curious if you had any thoughts about that being an issue with PLX...

I have multiple Macs, and even inside my main studio's Mac Pro I have multiple drives with multiple versions of OS X installed. Some of them are on 10.8.4 and some are on 10.9. I don't think it's an issue with LPX but more likely an issue with your system (AFAIK this issue hasn't been reported by anyone else so far).

 

The next thing I'd check is the permissions on the drive. Create a folder on that drive, make sure you have read and write permissions for that new folder, and try to save as inside that new folder?

will do David... i can't believe nobody on here has that problem. i found a ton on the internet trying to fix the issue. i will try what you suggested and let you know if i still have an issue... thanks for your continuous support...

I have just had the same problem - It started happening after I imported some tracks from an older logic pro x session.

Crashs when 'save as' not just a save.

I have a similar type of problem when I try to "save as" except that Logic also crashes when I try to "save a copy".

Actually it crashes when I click on the "save" button after clicking "save as" and it even crashes when I try to select the folder in which to save. Here is the error message I get:

It happens for any project I try to save. Save a copy does not work either.

Hi Triplets,

 

I save all my Logic projects in My User Folder into Music > Logic. It is the automatic path that Logic uses to save the files and I never had a problem so far. But anyway, Logic crashes before I can even select a location.

 

And I still have 630 Go available on my HD.

It is always recommended to save the projects on another hard drive, preferably USB 3 and spinning at 7200 rpm or SSD drive.

 

That way if the computer crashes, the projects are separate.

 

Also, if you have a spinning system drive, you giving it a lot of work when you save on the same location.

I will try to copy and paste the projects on a separate HD and see if it works from there.

No need to copy and paste.

 

Just drag the project folder over to the other drive. It copies automatically.

Temp SOLUTION: File->Project Management-> Rename... 

Then File->Save

I have had the same problem, for months now. No one has the answer. It doesn't have anything to do with HD space or Logic versions or permissions etc. It just locks up when you try to save or close a project without saving. Then, while it hangs there with the spinning wheel of death mocking you, Siri will say something like... "logic pro needs your attention", but you can't do anything. I have also had it say 'midi time out" or it will ask "Do you want to save?' and yet there is no window with a selection to answer. All that can be done is to go to the Activity Monitor and stop the Unresponsive Logic Pro app. There is only one solution that actually works. Set up a new user account and share the program. But then you have to also get to all your plugins etc and that takes time too. I wish someone more educated than me could figure out the real cause and solution. This has been extremely nerve-racking. I feel like buying logic and all the plugin's was a HUGE mistake and waste of money. It has certainly been a major waste of time.

**** UPDATE **** I think I found a conflict that may have remedied the situation. I had bought a keyboard from Novation a while back that installed a program called Automap. When Logic scans for plugins, automap is also scanning plugins and many failed. That prompted me to uninstall Automap and lo and behold, I can save and close projects again!

Automap is known to create havoc in Logic.

Don't know why, but many users in this forum had issues with it.
