MACnus
Hi I was wondering if it was possible to make au instruments that runs under ppc to show up in Logic pro universal binary? Any mac users know how, or if its possible? tnx
bryla
on a ppc machine yes. on an intel no. the au's should be ub too. if they aren't you can at most only open them as standalone running rosetta
blueintheface
Yes, there is a way! Only PPC app's can use PPC plugs. . . .so you need to force your UB host app to open as a PPC app (i.e. under Rosetta.) [edit: Before you follow the procedure below, it's worth making a copy of your host app - I'm using Logic - and renaming it 'Logic PPC' or Logic Rosetta' or whatever. Then you can quickly and easy access all your PPC plugs without having to go through this procedure every time.] Here we go: Get Info (Command i) on your host app (Logic in this case) and check the Open using Rosetta box. You may find that you still can't access your plugs, and this may be because the AU Validation Tool is opening as a native app, and either doesn't see your PPC plugs or has marked them 'incompatable'. What you will need to do is make Logic AU Manager.app also open under Rosetta. To do this, Get Info on Logic (or the host app you are using) and Show Package Contents. And then in Contents/Resources/ do a Get Info on Logic AU Manager.app, and check the Open using Rosetta box. Now Logic (PPC) will be able to use all your PPC plugs, 'incompatable' or otherwise, and you'll also be able to manage those PPC plugs under Rosetta on Intel Mac's. . . . Obviously performance will be reduced but, if you just need to access a non-UB plug for processing or to print a track from a particular PPC VI, then this definitely does work. . . . Do I get a prize for such a top tip?

blueintheface
10.4.9 brought more stringent validation. You can still use 'incompatable' plugs, though. Just enable them in the AU Manager. . . I'm messing around with daHornet (PPC) in Logic right now. . ..
