Seemingly simple action causing enormous stress

My simple objective: To add a new 'audio object' to my arrange window (which contains 10 audio tracks, 2 buses and 8 Audio Instruments.)

My Recurring Problem: Whether I select 'Create Track' or 'Create track with next Instrument' I am presented with a 'clone' of an existing audio object (either audio or instrument). Annoyingly, this 'clone' refuses to take on an independent identity to the track it cloned itself from. In other words, if I change a parameter on one, this change takes place in the other too (e.g. icon/channel/velocity).

How can I overcome this? Am I doing something wrong?

This command does not *create* new objects. It creates a new track for the next object that already exists in Environment. When it runs out of pre-existing instruments, it just assigns the last instrument it found to the new track.

Also, note the setting at Audio / Audio Hardware and Drivers... / Max. Number of Audio Tracks.

You're right. Yesterday, I changed the setting down to 4 and was still able to create 8 audio tracks. *But* it had been 8 initially at power-up. Now I see that either a reboot or a (re)launch of the Core Audio is needed to make the new number register.
