scariaga
I've noticed that every time I bounce to audio the sound of my track changes from what it sounds like with in Logic. In particular the baseline. When in Logic the baseline sounds fine, after I bounce and then burn to CD I notice that the baseline sounds distorted and stretched out at times. Whats weird is that it happens radomly on different bars of the track (ie. one bar is fine, the next one is not). I've noticed this on a couple different projects so I know its not the instrument or the levels. Anybody have any ideas? Does the velocity on the midi region have anything to do with this? I usually put them to 127 for each midi note. Any help would be appreciated
David Nahmani
Sounds like there's some kind of modulation on your bass? Did you try soloing the bass track and bouncing? And also, try both offline and realtime bouncing?

As soon as I burn the track to CD and play it on my CDJ I notice the this distortion. Kind of sounds like the baseline is being stretched every so often. I've been bouncing realtime every time, I guess I could try offline and then importing it back. Thanks 8)
David Nahmani
So the problem is not with bouncing but with CD burning? What do you use to burn the CD? What if you listen to the bounced file in iTunes?
scariaga
So the problem is not with bouncing but with CD burning? What do you use to burn the CD? What if you listen to the bounced file in iTunes? I use a Lacie burner but its the same burner I use for all the music I play and I don't seem to have any problems with other tracks just my own productions. When I import the file into Itunes it's not as noticeable as when I burn the track but I can still hear the distortion/modulation.
Tarekith
You don't have any of the pitch functions on in the CDJ's do you? Don't they have a function that lets you change the speed of the tune without changing the pitch?

Thats a good point though, thats kind of the effect I'm getting on my baseline, kind of like a slight time stretch which is make the baseline sound stretched out. The weird thing is that it happens on every 3rd or 4th bar and I have the pitch button turned off.
David Nahmani
That's a weird one. And if you play the CD on your computer, or reimport the file (from the CD this time) into Logic? So does the bassline go out of rythm every 3 or 4 bars?

So does the bassline go out of rythm every 3 or 4 bars? actually haven't tried that, I will do that when I get home tonight. The bassline doesn't go out of rhthym or time just that it kind of has that stretched out sound similar to when you time stretch a sample. You guys don't think that the velocity of the midi notes have anything to do with it? I usually put all notes @ 127, I wouldn't think that would effect the sound but I'm running out of options of what this could be.
David Nahmani
Different velocities could trigger a different sound or sample, but then you would hear it when you play back Logic without bouncing. When you bounce, what format do you bounce to? AIFF? 24 bits or 16 bits? Dithering? Maybe try to change some of those settings and see if you can locate the problem. What puzzles me is that you are saying the sound is different upon playback and once the file is bounced. When you bounce in real time, do you hear the "effect" while it's bouncing, or only after it's bounced? In iTunes, make sure you have the EQ bypassed and compare the bounced file with the file imported from the CD... I'm just thinking out loud, things I would give a try to help locate the problem. I switched instruments and everything seems to be ok now. Just thought it was weird since its happened to me on a couple of projects. Maybe I'm just picking bad bass presets. Thanks for your help though
