Instrument's parameter box question

I'm reading in an old environment tutorial that the Prg/Vol/Pan checkboxes are for initialization when selecting/reassigning a track. Does that mean the way this functions is if I've got them unticked and I reassign a track, the track will be assigned, but no Prg/Vol/Pan info is sent upon selecting it? But the Prg/Vol/Pan stuff is still allowed to be sent after that (like from the mixer)?

That would mean if I do have them ticked that everything is sent over after initializing automatically.

I was under the impression that those little checkboxes functioned like a filter, like, you had to have those checked for the Prg/Vol/Pan to be ticked for it to be sent at all from anywhere in Logic.

Yes.

I'm not sure what "initializing automatically" means?

Your impressions were wrong.

Actually I just tried sending some changes with them unticked and it didn't work. It seemed to work in the mixer though.

Which is why I said your impressions that you had to have those checked for the Prg/Vol/Pan to be ticked for it to be sent at all from anywhere in Logic were wrong. Another example would be MIDI CC data in regions on the track.

I'm not in the studio at the moment but I'll have to do some more experimenting on the initialization thing. I'm thinking that if I select a patch whose internal preset volume is at 50 for example, will be turned to 100 if I've got the Vol parameter box checked and the vol set to 100 there. Maybe that would send over a volume change after the Prg is sent. hmm...
