vpunk
Ok - I've setup my midi controller to control "things" in logic. Volume, Freq, Pitch, Lfo etc. They work just as I need them to. HOWEVER - when I put a track into touch/latch mode to record a move, nothing gets recorded. Could someone PLEASE tell me how to fix this? Regards, Tyler. David Nahmani
It should work. Keep trying! Are you sure the correct track(s) are in touch or latch mode? Can you see the fader/knob move when you touch your controller? Is Logic playing?... Did you try a different parameter on a different track? Does it work if you use your mouse? vpunk
Well yeah, - The correct tracks are in touch/latch - The mouse moves get recorded, my controller does not - Logic is playing - I can see the fader/knobs move . . . . I'm drawing a total blank on this one. HELP!
David Nahmani
Try moving ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.cs (note the .cs for control surface) to your desktop, reassign the controller and try again.
vpunk
Hey David, That still didn't work. Any other thoughts ?
David Nahmani
Try to see if you can make it work in another blank template? To rule out song corruption.
vpunk
I tried that earlier on. . . then again just as a good measure. No love . . . . I've also tried bypassing every part of my environment and tht doesn't even work. Furthermore I've tried another controller (Akai MPD16). Still nothing records. - Like I've said before, the parameters will move, even the hyper draw line goes up and down.
vpunk
Anyone have anything on this problem?
shivermetimbers
How 'Exactly' are you going about this process? I think the key to this process is in controller assignment. You have to 'Learn' Logic to control the fader or pan pot. You are doing everything right, but you missed an assignment step somehow.
vpunk
Thing is Logic is already learned the controlls - it displays the pots moving when I move a coresponding pot. This has actually worked for me in the past without setting up through the controller assignments. In fact just for curiositys sake I gave that a wirl, and that still doesn't work. ! shivermetimbers
Okay, Here is another thing to look at... In the Automation preferences (Main menu choose OPTION > TRACK AUTOMATION) check the box of the parameter you want to control. Unchecked, it acts the way you describe. When (say) volume is checked, the Volume automation recorded (Play or record mode).
vpunk
Thanks for the screen shots. Believe it or not I'd allready had those checked and unchecked. I took your advice thinking/hoping maybe that was it but when I got there, they were all checked. . . . I uncheked them. then checked them again. no lie . . . shivermetimbers
Good news/Bad news, I D/L a Stutter component and I tried to automate it and it's doing everything but recording the automation (Exactly like you describe). Now I have something to work with. I can still record the automation with the regular parameyers in Logic (i.e. Volume, pan, etc)[/b]
vpunk
Yeah with me, nothing seems to record. Like I said, the dotted lines will move up and down, but nothing records - even with the track in touch/latch.
vpunk
IF I were to reinstall Logic to give that a shot - what files/directories would I need to back up to get things to the way they were? Will this work? Is it even worth a shot?
David Nahmani
You would have to backup ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/ and ~/Library/Application Support/Logic/ (the whole folders. Also, if you have installed anything in the root library (instead of your user library as indicated here by '~/').
vpunk
Hey David based on what I've stated already about my situation, will this even work for me? Regards, Tyler,
shivermetimbers
Tyler, As a last resort before reloading... Try deleting the controller commands AND delete all automation (Options, Track Automation, Delete ALL track automation) ? And try again. If necessary, open a new song file and try to automate again. I can understand some plug-ins not wotking, but I cannot understand why your basic controls aren't working right.
David Nahmani
I have to admit I've never seen this as well.
vpunk
Thanks guys - I'll give that a shot. This is getting the best of me right now.
vpunk
Well . . . . I tried both ideas. Niether worked. I tried going back to 7.0 - nothing. I tried erasing my controller commands - nothing. For my setup I have a MOTU 828, an Evolution MK449C, and an Akai MPD16. I tried to get it to work with the MK449 and the MPD16. Nothing I tried going back to a standard template. Nothing. I also tried turning off the MOTU thinking there was a conflict. The tracks are in touch/latch . . . Is there something I'm missing here?
David Nahmani
OK quit Logic and trash ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.logic.plist. Now move all the contents of the following folder to a temporary folder on your desktop: ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/. Still doesn't do it? Reinstall! sorry but short of being in front of your computer and trying it for myself, that's all I can think of.
