Switching between recording and playback track levels

I'm using an M-Audio ProjectMix I/O with Logic Pro X. Simple project: adding vocal track to existing tracks imported from old ProTools.

To avoid any latency in monitoring the vocals during recording, I mute the track in LPX and monitor via cans plugged into the ProjectMix. I then unmute the track for playback. Here's my question/problem: when I play back the comps to eval each take the audio level of the vocal track is quite loud. I realize I can reduce the level during playback, then return the track level to what's needed for recording, but I wonder if there's a better way to switch between the levels set for recording and for playback?

This is probably very elementary but I'm new to this hardware and software.

Welcome to Logic Pro Help.

Please click this link to your signature and add your system information:

• Logic version and sub-version (e.g. Logic 10.0.5)

• OS X version and sub-version (e.g. OS 10.9.1)

• Computer (e.g. MacBook, Mac Pro, iMac)

• Processor (e.g. 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo)

• Memory (e.g. 2GB)

• Audio interface manufacturer and model (e.g. Presonus AudioBox USB)

• MIDI Controller manufacturer and model (e.g. M-Audio Axiom Pro 49)

(most of that information can be found by choosing Logic Pro X > About Logic Pro X, and  > About This Mac)

but I wonder if there's a better way to switch between the levels set for recording and for playback?

You should be able to set this up in the Project Mix's Control Panel. It should be in the System Preferences.
