gno
I'm trying to use the Step Editor to edit drums. I turned off the grid pattern for some lanes to give me more freedom with drum fills and such. Sometimes I need to move the notes a bit after I entered them. But even though the grid pattern is off, it seems like it only lets me move by 16th notes like it is snapping. There is no snap setting that I can find on the step editor. Is there any way to turn off this snapping behavior in the step editor?
David Nahmani
No, you can't turn that off: a step editor is designed to enter events on steps, thus on the grid. You need another editor such as the Piano Roll to make smaller timing adjustments. You can easily switch from Piano Roll for those adjustments and then back to the Step Editor to write your patterns. gno
Thanks David - I'll take your advice and switch to the Piano Roll when needing to make fine adjustments. My biggest issue with using the piano roll for drums is that I'm using Superior which has a bunch more articulations for Snare and Hi Hat, way beyond GM, and these notes are all over the place - very difficult to keep track of on a piano roll. With the step editor (and a typical drum map) I can arrange these articulations logically. With the Piano Roll I can't. The Step Editor is really cool as you can turn the Grid resolution off for certain lanes. You'd think that if you turn off the grid resolution you'd be able to move a note anywhere but I guess you can't have everything like you want. Just curious - why does it snap to 16ths? Can I change this value? This is a long shot, but are there any 3rd party drum map editors for Logic that you know of that would accomplish what I'm looking for?
