3.5 to 1/4 inch adapters

Recommended Posts

I am trying to get a stereo feed into a pair of headphones from a nio 2/4 sound card headphone output.

My 3.5mm stereo headphone jack is plugged into a 1/4 inch stereo adapter which is in turn plugged into the 1/4 inch headphone socket of sound card.

I can only get stereo in my headphone when I mess around with the adapters, other than that it is just mono.

Is this due to the fact that I am using cheap 1/4 inch adapters or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

It could also be the plug at the end of the cable, depending on the brand of headphone; this tends to be the most fragile part of any pair of headphones. And it could also be the female plug in the soundcard (bent or broken contacts).

So, if you plug the phones (without the adapter of course) into an iPod or similar and it works in stereo, then you've eliminated the headphones' plug as a cause. If you plug it in with the 1/4" adapter into an amplifier of which you know the heaphones output is working, then you know it must be the input on the soundcard.

So, time to test... good luck! :)
