External MIDI question

Logiclark

Recommended Posts

Hi have an old Zoom MRT-3 drum machine still around that I'd like to use with Logic. It only has MIDI in.

I connected it to Logic this way: Computer > Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 MIDI out > Zoom MRT-3 > Audio cable back to Scarlett Input 1.

In Logic, I created a software instrument track and added the External MIDI instrument plugin. I set the External MIDI plugin to the correct MIDI channel for output and Input 1 on the Scarlett as the input.

If I pencil in some MIDI drum notes in Logic and hit play, everything works great. Logic sends the MIDI to the Zoom drum machine and I can hear it play patterns in Logic. But, if I change Drum patterns on the Zoom, I still hear the same drum sounds in Logic. The Zoom has hundreds of drum sounds, but regardless of the sounds I select, Logic only plays back the same basic drum sounds.

Is this a GM issue?
