Using Headphones as Monitors

Is there any way to hear my voice with effects added while you're recording?

 

I am using the internal mic on my Powerbook G4. I am just trying to do some rough recording but I cannot hear my voice with effects in the headphones while I am recording. Thanks for the help.

Make sure software monitoring is checked in Audio > Audio Hardware and Drivers
