Novation Remote SL (Universal Automap) With Logic

Has anyone here had any experience with the Novation Remote SL used with Logic?

I read that it has automap for the instruments (27 pages for Sculpture!!!) but for some reason no automap for the effects? Is that true?

I'm also curious to know how well logic will record the automation from this unit? Any hang ups? Willl I have to build controller assignments ?

Also, if I build my own template for an instrument/effect, will the automap recognize and use my template when I go to an appropriate instument?

Please and thank you,

Tyler.

I just started using the two together (new to both), and so far it's a bit hit or miss IMO. Because Logic has it's synths in it's own format, you're kinda stuck with what they set up for the synths. The mixer and transport controls are great, work right out of the box and are easy to figure out.

The synths though are not as intuitive, some of the labels don't make sense on the SL, and a lot of the controls aren't organized very well (IMO), Funny you asked about setting up your own template controller for Logic, as that's what I'm learning about now too.

It is true - no effects. Drives me nuts. Seems like perhaps this could be solved with their Automap server but it won't run on my computer (or 4 other computers). Novation software drives me f-ing nuts and the support at AMS is awful. So, it works pretty well for some things but this product is half baked at best. Mixer and transport seems fine.

For what it's worth, Automap server works perfectly on my MBP, in fact my first thoughts on using this controlelr were how well done the software was. It's only in Logic that things are dicey due to the closed format. Automap in say Ableton Live is flawless, works awesome. Controlling some thing like Operator makes the SL feel like a hardware synth. Very configurable if you want too, much easier than with logic.

It's not all bad, and really it's still the best controller I've found.

Thanks for the pointers - unfortunately for yours truely I'm struck using logic.

I wouldn't mind programming something like the SL just as long as I knew it could do what I wanted it to.

I gather that for now it's rather limited to just another control surface when used with logic - c'est la vie
