Lost all recording level.. ?

Will disconnecting a phantom powered condenser microphone damage either the mic or the cable? Or perhaps the audio interface?

I did this and now I need to fully crank the sensitivity on my audio interface (edirol ua-25) to get close to a decent recording level. Previously I would have more then enough level with the dial at about half. This is a problem because of the bad signal to noise ratio with a fully cranked pre-amp.

Have I damaged the mic (behringer b1)? the cable? the interface? or is it a setting somewhere?

Thanks for your help, this one is killing me!

normally that shouldnt do anything, its just turning power off of something, like a light bulb. however, i dont have experience with behringer mics, and that could be your problem...behringers products break easily, and replacing parts or reparing is out of the question. i suggest you go for a better brand, there are affordable and good mics from AKG, Audio Technica, Rhode, etc. Edirol too makes pretty low gamm stuff, so its possible that the circuitry was bad and when you turned off the 48v you may have mucked up either the edirol or the mic. but try pluging the mic into another device to see if its the mic or the edirol.

Thanks for the help.

The mic still sounds perfectly clear, so i think its probably ok.. there's no loss of quality except the noise from having to crank the gain.

Good point though i'll have to test both devices..

My lecturer at uni tells me its probably a blown fuse in my condenser mic (he doesn't trust behringers quality).

Is this a likely explanation? 'Cos i dunno..

The mic still sounds of reasonable quality except for that noise, but I think thats from cranking the pre-amp to full to get enough level.
