RockNRoll
Hello all, I'm a DP user trying to learn Logic and so far it's been kinda confusing especially when the manuals don't seem to be very thorough. I have several questions, but here's one...how do you differentiate when you'd have to insert virtual instruments in the insert slot or i/o slot of a channel strip?? What is the essential difference of these two slots? I noticed that only certain virtual instruments are available in the i/o slot, while some are available in both insert and i/o slots...so that kinda threw off a bit on when and how one should apply or instantiate a particular virtual instrument. Appreciate any feedback or advice. p.s. if anyone knows of a good third party manual on Logic Pro, appreciate any suggestions. Thanks again. Sam
Hello, I think the PeachPit Press series is pretty good... As for your question, the i/o slot on an instrument track is used for virtual instruments, as they generate the original sound. The insert slots are for effects, to change the sound that's already going through the strip. Some VIs might double as an effect (this would be part of how that plugin describes itself to Logic, so that's why it's different among plugins. Maybe NI's Guitar Rig, Reaktor, or a vocoder would behave this way). -Sam
bryla
Logic itself filters effect and processing from instruments. The menu in the I/O section ONLY shows instruments, and the inserts show everything else. Some VI's have a seperate effect section built into them, and those effects can then be found on the inserts. Fx NI B4 or Korg Legacy. A vocoder is also put on the I/O sidechained to the audio track it is to process
