philc80
I am running a Powerbook G4 1.25 and I've recently started getting system overload messages. I can't seem to playback the song I'm working on for more than 5 seconds without this happening. Monitoring the CPU, both bars are only 1/2 way up while the song plays yet this still happens. I have most of my tracks frozen and have also bussed some of my effects to battle this issue. Could it be that my computer is just plain TOO SLOW?? I also have 2 gigs of RAM. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
David Nahmani
How many tracks? And how is your hard drive meter? Each frozen track has to stream a 32 bit file from your hard drive, the equivalent of two 16 bit audio tracks! So it could be your drive slowing down. Also, how many GB left on your hard drive? philc80
Well the song I was working on originally had 15 tracks... but like I said the meters were not really even going higher than the halfway mark for both disk and audio.. and this was after i freezed a bunch of the tracks. So as an experiment, I decided to reopen a new project and play around with a melody in one track... low and behold that crashed too!!! Now this I really don't understand. I have all my logic projects saved on an external HD which has over 150 gigs remaining and my internal HD has at least 30 gigs remaining.. Could it be my hardware/audio settings in logic?? 74Rickenbacker
I just started having the same exact problem. Did the same thing as you, opened a new project with very few tracks. It still gives me the system overload error after 30 seconds or so of playback. My system performance looks good and then I get the error... I've even taken all the plug-ins off tracks and it still does it. Very annoying. Not sure what to do myself... I'm running a Mac Pro 2.66 with 3 gigs of RAM and a huge hard drive with ample space. 74Rickenbacker
My issue definitely seems to be a Logic issue. If I open "Activity Monitor" via Applications: Utilities: Activity Monitor, and then run a song in logic, my activity monitor is barely pushing any CPU usage. However Logic is still giving me system overload. I guess I'll try to trash preferences and if that doesn't work, trash Logic all together and reinstall? Only thing I can think to do. philc80
Wow, so I guess it's not a system issue afterall. Good thing I know this because I was about to run out and by a new mac all together.
JGALIM
hmm strange!! I've got a mac book pro 2.33ghz, 2gig of ram running logic 7.2 and without fail whenever I load up a new arangement that I've been working on I get the system overload message the first time I play the arrangement but then it never happens again after that? Strange?

Strange? That happens to me as well more often than not. (Along with it sometimes not wanting to play a project all together) I've now started that when I bring up a new project, I power down my speakers and just let the project play one time through. I've also noticed that some of my plug-ins aren't engaged first play through. When this first started happening, my mix would be all wrong first listen through and I would adjust things thinking that maybe my ears were possibly fatigued last time I was working on the project and that now I'm hearing things with fresh ears. What would happen is the second time I would let the project play through, the mix sounded great! I can't figure out a way to be sure, but I strongly believe it's because my plug-ins were not engaged yet. It's a really annoying issue. I ordered 4GB of Ram this weekend (prices have come down a bit for the MacPro's Finally!) I'll let you know if more Ram helps this issue the extra 4 will put me at 7GB if that doesn't help, I'm not sure what to do?
